Let’s talk about patina first, what is Patina?

Patina is the green or brown film on the surface of bronze or similar metals, produced by oxidation over long period of time due to age and exposure. It is created by the slow chemical reaction of copper with carbon dioxide and water, producing a basic copper carbonate.

An applied patina often deliberately as a part of the original design and decoration of art and furniture by artists and metalworkers.

First caution for your bronze sculpture is to do no harm. Your bronze sculpture can be displayed indoor or outdoor, bronze as a metal can withstand to any climate condition. Most bronze sculpture are place outdoor using them as landmark for school, business or public property. Keeping them clean is a challenging tasked, you need to have the right tools and materials to clean them so they can look as new as ever.

Materials you need to clean the bronze sculpture:
*Soft cloth, soft brush, toothbrush and flat brush

Make sure they are dirt and oil free. Use these materials to gently brush the dirt away first, make sure not to scratch it.

*Johnson’s Traffic Wax, Renaissance Wax or Tire Wax Brand Paste Wax

Foundries recommend these brands paste for cleaning your bronze sculpture. After brushing away the dirt, applied very thin even coat of wax to the soft cloth, soft brush or toothbrush. Allow the wax to sit in and dry before polishing it.
Avoid using waxes or polishes that contain cleaning agents, also laundry detergent these products have harsh chemicals that can ruin or damage your bronze sculpture.

Using a clean soft cloth gently rub the surface of the bronze sculpture until the desired shine appears. You can do a second coat of wax it will add additional gloss.
